New Movements in Dance Ireland

Siobhán Ní Dhuinnín shares a work-in-progress stemming from three weeks research into the relationship between language (Gaeilge) and the dancing body. The primary themes central to the research, include; language as a portal with which to connect to past, present and future; the portrayal of the lived embodied experience of women’s bodies in songs and poems as Gaeilge over the last 100 years. Siobhán presents this New Movements sharing alongside expert collaborators including dancer Sibéal Davitt, poet Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh, composer Úna Monaghan and dancer Mary Nunan.
Siobhán Ní Dhuinnín is a dance artist based in Cork, Ireland. Her primary focus in on place-based and site-specific work manifesting in film and live performance. She seeks to question how the human body engages with the Earth in a way that gives agency to both. Siobhán enjoys collaborative work and has created alongside poets, actors, singers, geologists, boat-builders and musicians. She has performed with Joan Davis, Jessie Keenan, Junk Ensemble, Laura Murphy, Mary Nunan and Mary Wycherley, and was a member of Croí Glan Intergrated Dance Company.
This work is funded by a Markievicz Award as part of the Decade of Centenaries Programme, Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.

My thanks to Clíona Ní Ríordáin, David Wheatley, and Kevin Barry. Occitan is a language that I would love to explore, especially having so much enjoyed the poetry of Aurélie Lassaque.
